L’ETNA Friday January 22, 7.30 p.m.
Founded by filmmakers for filmmakers in 1997 in Paris, l'ETNA is a space for creation, workshops and exchanges around experimental cinema. The association aims to ensure material independence for authors caring about cinematographic experimentations, practical and formal proposals. In this frame a great variety of approaches can be developed without any restrictions: starting from the physical handling of the film material, via working with found footage up to documentary filming. At the dresdner schmalfilmtage three filmmakers from Paris will be aboard: Sylvia Fredriksson, Mauricio Hernández and Fivos Maniatakos. Following a short presentation of l’ETNA 4 films of group members will be shown, which present the great variety of their handwritings.
These films will be presented: • Arpentage (experimental film 2007, by Carmen Pointaux) • Svalbard (documentary film 2006, by Benjamin Sylvand and David Falco) • Va regarde (documentary film 2008, by Philippe Cote) • Bealach na bheattaine (experimental film 2008, by Michael Joyce and Ian Joyce)
