EADWEARD MUYBRIDGE, ZOOPRAXOGRAPHER — A FILM BY THOM ANDERSEN (USA, 1974) Saturday March 14, 2:15 PM, Motorenhalle, Wachsbleichstraße 4a (Backyard), 01067 Dresden

Guest: Michael Baute (Berlin); Curation and Moderation: Franziska & Sophia Hoffmann

With his invention, the Zoopraxograph, Eadweard Muybridge was able to project phase photographs as fluid sequences of movement from the 1870s onwards. These and other photos, tables, as well as his own reenactments and series of images are shown to us by American filmmaker Thom Andersen (born 1943 in Chicago) in his 16mm feature film “Eadweard Muybridge, Zoopraxographer” (USA, 1974), while a voiceover narrates Muybridge's creative process. In addition to Andersen, Morgan Fisher (born 1942 in Washington, D.C.), whose film work is featured several times in this year's festival, also contributed to the special effects shots. Lecturer and author Michael Baute will give an introduction to the film.
