NFA* I. THE ILLUSION OF A GARDENING IDYLL. CITY GARDENING IN AMATEUR FILMS Saturday March 14, 4:00 PM, Motorenhalle, Wachsbleichstraße 4a (Backyard), 01067 Dresden

Guest: Daria Chernyak (CZ); Curation and Moderation: Frank Eckhardt

Amateur filmmakers usually orient themselves towards the visual language familiar from mainstream cinema. In this way, they consciously and unconsciously create a document of their time. The same motifs are treated differently in each decade—the 1920s, 1930s, and 1970s—due to historical events and technological possibilities. The choice of camera, film stock, image composition, and editing reflects the technological and practical conditions of the respective era.
