CINEMA-YE AZAD سینمای آزاد: POLITICAL COLLISIONS PROGRAM 1 "THE COLLISION OF OLD AND NEW" Thursday 14 March, 18:00, Motorenhalle, Wachsbleichstraße 4a (Backyard), 01067 Dresden

Guest: Hadi Alipanah (IR); Curation and Moderation: Jutta Wille; Moderation: Frank Eckhardt

The Cinema-ye Azad movement was founded in 1969 by Basir Nasibi. During its ten years as the only unified and organized cinematographic movement in the history of Iranian cinema, Cinema-ye Azad enjoyed numerous successes. However, after the 1979 revolution, the filmmakers realized that they could not maintain their independence. They therefore decided to dissolve the movement. As a continuation of the 2022 program, further newly discovered films will be presented.

"The Collision of Old and New" focuses on films that show Iran and Iranians at the height of modernization in the 1970s. This very modernization triggered the clashes between old foundations and new ideals that ultimately led to a revolution.
