In totalitarian Czechoslovakia, the entire cultural sector was under the supervision of official bodies and censorship. Unofficial art and its dissemination were punished as illegal or hostile to the state. Nevertheless, there were many intermedia collaborations between the film, music, art and theater subcultures, which contributed to the creation of film documentaries of underground concerts, original musical experimental films or absurd portraits of music bands. At the end of the 1980s and in the 1990s, thanks to the boom in video technology, there were also initial experiments with the genre of the video clip, which was particularly popular with students of new media.
