I OFTEN THINK OF HAWAII (ORIG.: ICH DENKE OFT AN HAWAII) – ELFI MIKESCH Saturday 18 September 2021 7.00 pm, Motorenhalle
Guest and curator: Masha Matzke; Moderator: Frank Eckhardt
Elfi Mikesch (*1940) has been committed to a feminist and queer counterculture for over 50 years with subversive works that transcend formal and thematic boundaries. "I Often Think of Hawaii" is a film in which fantasies and things of everyday life have their special place. It tells the story of sixteen-year-old Carmen, who lives with her mother and brother in West Berlin. It is the seventies. The children's father, a Puerto Rican professional soldier, left them after Carmen was born. Apart from some postcards and Hawaiian music records, he left nothing behind.
