Film workshop: Color Bending_darkroom-lightroom led by the artist duo Alexandra Moralesová and Georgy Bagdasarov (founders of the Labodoble film lab in Prague)
The workshop will focus on bending, folding and detouring the color space of a print stock. Through appropriate and inappropriate film chemistry, developing in darkness or developing in light, colors can be shifted into their possible variants, from realistic to intergalactic. Participants will work directly with the material and observe how small changes in the developing process can produce expected and sometimes even unexpected results. The workshop treats film chemistry as a practical and experimental tool, giving space to trial, error and chance as well as material knowledge.
Alexandra Moralesová works with 8mm and 16mm film, video, photography and projection. She is interested in the principles of vision, experimental visual narration, material transformation and the issue of the archive. She studied at FAMU in Prague, Center for Audiovisual Studies (CAS) where she teaches. She is the co-founder (with Georgy Bagdasarov) of the collective photochemical laboratory labodoble through which they organize narrow-gauge and expanded cinema events, festivals and workshops. Together with Bagdasarov, they create live performances, the main motif being the remediation of the existing material (for example 8mm film, photography, diary and correspondence) and the de/construction through various ways of showing it.
Georgy Bagdasarov (Գեվորգ Բագդասարով) was born in Kazakhstan to an Armenian family. He studied Cybernetics at the Technical University in Kaluga, continued in composition at the Music Academy in Moscow, and graduated from the St. Petersburg Film School. Since 2005 he has been living in Prague, completing his doctoral studies at FAMU in 2012, where he also teaches at CAS. He involves in a wide range of musical and artistic collaborations, including the collective photochemical laboratory labodoble which he co-founded with Alexandra Moralesová.
