AMATEUR FILM IN THE GDR - GRAB THE CAMERA, GIVE LEISURE TIME A SENSE Saturday 18 September 2021 5.30 pm, Motorenhalle

Everyday reports, feature film études, observations of nature, biting satires and even advertising and surrealism - amateur film in the GDR was multi-layered. Over 900 individuals made more than 10,000 films in their spare time. They oscillate between adaptation and cautious criticism or simply show what the professionals did not record or recorded differently. Ralf Forster has researched the subject for over ten years, collected films and written a book. His programme shows the spectrum of this rare film heritage.
