MOMMARTZFILM - Lutz Mommartz Friday 23nd of January 19.30

Lutz Mommartz in Selbstschüsse

Lutz Mommartz decided to make 16mm films in 1967. He had four films finished within the application deadline for Knokke-le-Zoute’s experimental filmfestival. All four films were accepted, three made it into the competition and “Sebstschüsse” won the famous international price. Mommartz, who at the time being worked as head inspector for the Düsseldorf Building Authorities, decided to make films, because with painting he couldn’t express anymore that, which he intended to. So, with his films he was a pioneer of “the other cinema”. After his occupation as professor for film at the Art Academy in Münster, Momartz today works as a poet, author and film maker in Düsseldorf and Berlin. His films, oriented on strictly simple konzepts are playful and humorous, partly touching, sometimes also shocking. We will show predominantly early works, including of course “Selbstschüsse”.

Lutz Mommartz is present as a guest.
