AMERICAN INDEPENDENTS II - DEBORAH STRATMANFriday, 20 Januar 2017 8.00 pm

Chicago based filmmaker Deborah Stratman explores in THE ILLINOIS PARABLES how a landscape is shaped by society over the centuries. Which role do the natural formation and the usability of a territory play for the settlers? How do social influences, traditions and technologies affect the process? The 16mm film portraits the events in the federal state of Illinois from 600 to 1985. An impressive composition of archive footage, documentary, re-enactment, off-voices and chapter texts reveals the inscriptions of a landscape.
The film continued the international success of the filmmaker's work in the “Forum Expanded” at the Berlinale 2016.
'… a beautiful ghost of a film.' (Michael Phillips/Chicago Tribune 2016)
