COLOGNE – CUBAThursday 18th January 2018 6.45 pm

Guests: Laurentia Genske, Simon Rittmeier,
Curation: Jan Nordsieck

Five filmmakers brought an exchange programme into life for their students in 1996, known ever since as the Cologne-Cuba-Project. Right up till this day the ensuing award winning works have been premiered in Cannes, Berlin and New York. We will be showing two of them, filmed with a mechanical Bolex on 16 mm film.
In the middle of the 1950's Castro and Guevara appeared in the mountains
of the Sierra Maestra. This is where the village of "El Manguito" is located.
The significance it had at the time is now part of history. Nowadays the village inhabitants who still live there, struggle to preserve their traditional village life.

"Agridulce" is all about a cream cake, which happens to be a Cuban status symbol. But the life of the four protagonists is not as sweet as cake at all.

Agridulce, Cuba/Germany, 45 min., 16 mm, 2008 Julia Keller, Janis Mazuch, Simon Rittmeier
