FOUND-FOOTAGE COMPETITIONThursday 18th January 2018, 8.15 pm

The archives become alive again! For the first time at this year's dresdner schmalfilmtage: the international found footage competition.

Thanks to the foundation of the prize by the Filmverband Sachsen we will see more creative productions using found footage, also in the upcoming year. The usage of the found footage material is not restrained by limits: whether used film sequences from archives, market finds, family documents, or new images to a found footage soundtrack. It’s all possible. The special prize was awarded by FILMVERBAND SACHSEN e. V. in the framework of his project "Audiovisual Heritage in Saxony" with the support of the Saxon State Ministry for Science and the Arts (SMWK).

The professional jury consisted of Christian Zimmermann (fortitu media), Jürgen Grzondziel (Saxon State Library - State and University Library Dresden) and Denise Ackermann (Project work | Art & Society at Riesa.efau and teacher at the Academie of Arts in Dresden - jumped in for Masha Matzke of the Deutsche Kinemathek). The first award offered €300 and convinced the jury choose "Life is not a wish concert" by French filmmaker Alexane Perrin. The second award, worth 200€ for research work in international film archives, went to Gerard Freixes-Riberas (Spain) with "Identity Parade".
