RETROSPECTIVE

The film programme by Frankfurt based filmmaker Heldmann with works from 1984 to 2012 is best described as a tragic love story between a piece of raw meat and a naked woman. Three female observers comment on fetish while being critical about it and at the same time liberate fantasies and provoke obscene wishes. Eva C. Heldmann documents the daily lives of sex workers with respect and without being intrusive. Accompanied by documentary images the audience embarks on a journey of self-discovery while beginning to question its own norms. The filmmaker takes up an unpretentious feminist approach as she examines norms of sexuality and gender in contemporary media that highly influence our daily lives – probably more than we are aware of.
